Bilingual and Native Spanish Speakers
For native speakers of Spanish, the program functions to accomplish important goals:
- maintain and develop Spanish proficiency
- develop English proficiency
- develop literacy and academic achievement in both languages
- perform academically at or above grade level
- develop positive attitudes toward the two languages being used
- develop positive attitudes toward other cultures
- self-confidence and pride in the Spanish language
English Speakers
For native speakers of English, the program accomplishes these goals:
- develop high levels of proficiency in Spanish while making normal progress in English language development
- develop literacy and academic achievement in both languages
- perform academically at or above grade level
- develop positive attitudes toward the two languages being used
- develop positive attitudes toward other cultures
